In a dramatic ending at Busch Stadium the St. Louis Cardinals won in their
last at-bat beating the Houston Astros by the count of 2 to 1.

The game was won by St. Louis with a run in the bottom of the 9th inning.
Albert Pujols hit a bases-empty home run making St. Louis the winners and
sending the 42,429 fans home happy. The teams had been locked in a scoreless
duel until the 6th inning.

Brad Thompson(1-0) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 1 inning. Latroy
Hawkins(0-1) was tagged with the loss in relief. He pitched 2 innings
allowing 1 hit and no walks.
